RUSH:  Now, how is that hope and change working out for you?  This, folks, is outrageous.  He tells us unemployment is going to tick up.  He could announce a couple things today that would not turn the job situation around immediately, but would change attitudes immediately.  Eliminate corporate taxes or reduce them to 25% to whatever, capital gains, personal tax cuts, any number of things, and I tell you, Wall Street would go nuts and so would the private sector.  But he says we gotta stabilize the financial system first.  He says it here.  "The challenge for this administration is to make sure that even as we're stabilizing the financial system --" like coming up with more money to give people to pay their mortgage when they're out of work, that's going to stabilize the financial system "-- we understand that the most important thing is are people able to find good jobs that pay good wages."

Republicans cite the latest unemployment figures as evidence that President Obama's $787 stimulus package isn't working.

 Less than four months after the Obama administration argued that unemployment would top 9 percent only if Congress failed to pass a massive trillion-dollar "stimulus" spending bill, the Labor Department reported Friday that the jobless rate had soared to 9.4 percent, the highest in 25 years.

Now that the federal government is doling out billions in stimulus spending and bailouts, and looking for billions more for health care reform, the prospect of a national sales tax could be gaining some traction.

President Obama left Tuesday for a two-day fundraising tour in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The Democratic National Committee is expected to pick up part of the cost, but if history is any gauge, taxpayers will pick up most of the tab.

One of the most outspoken abortion opponents in Congress labeled President Obama the "abortion president" on Friday in response to news that Obama intended to sign an executive order Monday lifting restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., accused Obama of launching two attacks on pro-life measures. In addition to lifting President Bush's stem cell restrictions, Obama intends to lift regulations from the Bush administration that allow health care providers and institutions to refuse to participate in abortions on grounds of conscience.
