A few years ago, a friend of mine sent me a web video (taken from MSNBC) of Keith Olberminion wailing over the rights and freedoms that Americans were supposedly losing (under the Bush administration). My friend wanted me to comment on the video. After watching the video, I commented that watching Olberminion (with his didactic approach) is like watching a crazy man standing on the street corner yelling at cars as they pass by. Second, Olberminion has to be referring (mainly) to airport security. Besides the fact that we must now remove shoes and belts (before boarding a plane), I can‘t think of any other rights or freedoms that we have lost. Oh, I almost forgot…we can‘t talk to terrorists overseas because our phone conversation might be heard by the F.B.I. and C.I.A.

Mr. Olberminion-

Allow me to share 'True American Rights and Freedoms’ that we are losing under your President Obama:

1). Veterans will soon lose their right to Government supported health care; a life-long commitment to the men and women whose sacrifices have kept our country safe. President Obama should be utterly ashamed to even consider such a thankless change to the current policy, by requiring that private insurance carriers reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of troops injured in combat! Did he (Obama) even consider a looming scenario; private insurance says No to certain procedures. What then? Do the veterans get stuck with the bill?

2). We will soon lose the right to purchase dark colored vehicles; all in the name of combating Global Warming (the greatest hoax ever created). The California Air Resource Board (CARB) has determined that dark colored vehicles absorb much more heat (thus requiring more air-condition usage) than lighter colored vehicles and, as a result, they want to be the sole arbiters in determining what we drive.

3). We will soon be forced to keep thermostats at an “acceptable level” and according to strict Government standards. This is absolute statist control.

4). All employees (under card check) will be forced to openly support unionization of business, thus ending the secret ballot.

5). Every citizen of the United States will be forced to “dedicate” their time to “community service” (House Bill H.R. 1388 "The Give Act" and Senate version 5277 "The Serve Act"); a clear violation of the 13th amendment to the United States Constitution. Here come the lawsuits!

6). The Obama administration is seeking to "impose uniform standards (like salary restrictions) on all large financial firms, including banks, an unprecedented step that would place significant limits on the scope and risk of their activities". And, if the administration doesn’t agree with the path that your business is taking, they will bypass the board members and investors and fire your C.E.O. (see Rick Wagoner at GM)

Mr. Olberminion, will you (now) produce a show that details the rights and freedoms that American citizens are losing under the Obama administration (with his fast-approaching Government Leviathan)?

(I won’t hold my breath)

This past week, my wife and I had dinner with an old friend we hadn‘t seen in many years. To shield his identity, we‘ll call him ‘Ted‘. Ted is a life-long Democrat (although now claims to have re-registered as an Independent) and has spent most of his life actively campaigning for Democrats (and even a few Republicans). Ted is also an educated man, a staunch Union supporter having spent a good part of his life fighting for workers rights; and he’s an ardent Obama supporter. Our friend Ted is a Vietnam Veteran and a truly great person….

Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by Ted and ushered to our booth. After the handshakes and hugs, we sat and began a pleasant discussion; mostly catching up on events, happenings and future plans. It wasn’t too long thereafter, that politics were brought up. Now, prior to arriving at dinner, I had promised my wife that I would not bring up Obama (or politics in general). I (being a staunch Conservative) am normally the only one representing the Conservative argument at the holiday gatherings and she knows that discussions lead to debates which lead to disagreements and ultimately hurt feelings; never a pleasant thing at friendly functions.

Once the political discussion began and after several minutes of normal back-and-forth discussion, Ted made a startling proclamation. Ted admitted to being a “Socialist” and said he believes in Nationalizing the banking system, healthcare and a number of other institutions……(immediate silence fell upon the table and the discussion was over).

On the way home from dinner, my wife and I both sat in silence, mentally digesting what it was that we had just heard from our friend. Once we were able to regain our thoughts, I commented to her that I (strangely) had a new-found respect for Ted. Respect for admitting what it was that he really stood for. Ted answered the very question that had been bothering me ever since the election of Obama. I have been struggling over the reasons why this man was elected. Obama clearly had (and still has) no experience to be President of the United States. Obama ran (and got elected) on a message of mindless tripe (Hope and Change). While campaigning through a neighborhood (with cameras rolling), Obama admitted to a family man that he (Obama) was a wealth re-distributor! These are not issues or positions you are supposed to win elections with…not in the United States of America….but he did. The uneducated youth are easily swayed, so understanding the Obama youth vote was simple to do, but, how (I often wondered) could the educated supporters of Obama (like Ted) have selected this man? When Ted announced that he, himself, was a Socialist, it all made sense.

American socialist Norman Thomas once said, "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without ever knowing how it happened." It appears that Norman Thomas was more correct than even he could have ever imagined.

(sigh)….Goodbye America, you were strong while you lasted.

So...today I read that White House spokesman Ben LaBoldt told FOX NEWS that Obama "does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be re-instated". Well, judging from all the broken promises that Obama has made so far (just over 30 days into his administration), I would say that the "Fairness Doctrine" is definitely on its way back into law. For instance, Obama made (and broke) the following promises;

1). Promising not to hire lobbyists (before hiring several) in his administration.

2). Promising bigger tax cuts for hard-working Americans (before scaling back on the dollar amounts, while at the same time, increasing funding for social services in the phony "Stimulus" bill, much of which will probably be used by non-citizens).

3). Promising the most honest, ethical and transparent White House (before hiring tax cheat Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary and trying to appoint several scandal-tainted retreads from the Clinton days).

4). Promising to "shed the light on all earmarks by disclosing the name of the legislator who asked for each earmark, along with a written justification, 72 hours before they can be approved by the full Senate" (before rushing to Denver this week to sign the pork-filled "Stimulus" without so much as a word or mention of  the millions in earmarks that exist in it, nor the legislators who asked for them).

5). Hypocritically lecturing us by declaring that "we can't drive our SUV's and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times....and then just expect that other countries are going to say ok" (before being photographed -his first day in the oval office- without his suit jacket, after cranking up the thermostat...inviting the comment  from Axelrod that "He's from Hawaii....he likes it warm...you could grow orchids in there"). Obama is simply another do-as-I-say and not-as-I-do type, like the phony Al Gore with his man-made Global Warming preventing lifestyle, jetsetting acrosss the world creating a Carbon footprint the size of a solar system. (Emphasis mine)

With Obamas track record (so far), forgive me for not placing much value in anything this man promises. One thing is for certain; when the left wingers in this country (whether they be the old media or Obamas minions) can't debate an issue, or compete on the same level, it seems their only option is to resort to silencing or shutting down the opposition.

Hey, if they hurry and pass the Fairness Doctrine, then perhaps SeriusXM can be saved from bankruptcy. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this is Obamas secret plan; to save a large corporation (by pushing Rush Limbaugh and company to Satellite Radio).

Just give him a chance?

February 2, 2009

Supporters of Obama are telling his critics to relax and give him a chance. They say that if Obama fails, America fails (followed by the rhetorical question 'why would we want that'?). They are so caught-up in the Obama hype, their inclination is to follow blindly and question nothing. They are like the visitors to P.T. Barnum's museum who see the sign that reads "This way to the Egress" and follow with excitement in anticipation of what's around the corner, when in fact it's simply a sign pointing the way to the exit. Put in simpler terms; they're easily fooled.

In reality, if Obama succeeds, America fails. I realize that, on the surface, it sounds like an ad hominem attack on Obama; but think about it for a moment. Did his supporters forget that it was a statistical fact that Obama was the most liberal senator in the Senate (or does that even matter)? Do they not care that this new “Stimulus” package (with all its hand-outs), puts America on the precipice of either Socialism, or a nation of dependents with their hands out awaiting a government check? Do they not see that this new administration is returning to a pre 9/11 foreign policy, with the closing of Gitmo and the appointment of an inexperienced, unqualified Leon Panetta as director of the C.I.A.? Do they not care that 2 weeks into his presidency, Obama is already breaking campaign promises (not to hire Lobbyists)? Conservatives aren’t launching personal attacks against Obama; heck, I’d have a beer with him (if I drank). We are disagreeing with his policies. There’s a difference between ad hominem attacks and scrutinizing policy. Ad hominem attacks are what President Bush suffered throughout his two terms. We all remember the “Bush lied, people died” mantra. Lost in all the Bush hatred were the facts. One of the facts (lost on the Bush haters) was that, early on in the Iraq war, several of Saddam Hussein’s captured Elite Republican Guard admitted that even they thought he had stockpiles of Weapons of Mass Destruction. The real liar was Saddam Hussein, yet, to this day, most people are convinced that Bush lied. The whole “Bush Lied” fiasco demonstrated the power and influence that a deceitful media can wield.

I think I am beginning to understand how it works: If the President has a ‘D’ (for Democrat) next to his name (as opposed to an ‘R’), we’re supposed to give him a chance (at any cost) and show support for his policies and actions (even if to our own detriment). Too bad for Bush; had he only changed parties and re-registered as a Democrat (prior to the Iraq war), then the whole W.M.D. mantra likely would have been “Bush Tried”, instead of “Bush Lied“ and perhaps even he would have been given ‘a chance‘.

(Hey, what better way to illustrate absurdity, than to be absurd)

If asked to rate the new President by the artificial yardstick of “The First 100 days” of his presidency, I would have to conclude that (so far) it ranks at or near the bottom. Keep in mind that we’re only 9 days in. Lets take a look. So far, Obama has managed to accomplish the following;

1). Appoint a tax cheat (Timothy Geithner) as treasury secretary (which, ironically, oversees IRS operations).

2). Appoint Eric Holder to the position of Attorney General. Holder (while at the Department of Justice) was involved in the highly controversial pardons of Marc Rich (wanted for fraud and illegal trading with Iran when that country held U.S. hostages), the commuted sentences of domestic terrorists Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg (implicated in the killing of 2 New York State Policemen and a security guard) and the 16 FALN terrorists who carried out bombings in New York and Chicago.

3). Appoint Carol Browner to position of “Global Warming Czar”. Mrs. Browner was formerly one of a handful of leaders of ‘Socialist International’ a group that has called for Global governance and who is often highly critical of the United States.

4). Authorized the closing of Guantanamo (rather cavalierly) without a plan in place for re-locating current detainees, while at the same time pushing to extend ‘Habeus Corpus’ rights to CAPTURED FOREIGN TERRORISTS!!! Hey Obama! Do you remember the trial of the ‘blind sheik’?

5). Break his campaign promise not to hire lobbyist’s for his administration by announcing his intention to hire lobbyist William Lynn as Deputy Defense Secretary.

6). Attack Rush Limbaugh. Are you kidding me? With an economy in a freefall, where tens of thousands of Americans are losing their jobs, homes and retirement savings; is this really the best time for the President of the United States to be picking a fight with a radio talk show host?

Somebody please wake me and tell me that I'm suffering a bad dream. This can't be the ‘change’ Obama was promising....can it? If it is, I'm going back to sleep!

Stimulate What?

January 28, 2009

The Stimulus Bill (a.k.a. the Socialism Bill filled with tons of Pork) passed the House tonight. However, in spite of Obama's attempt to meet with key Republican leaders this week, not a single Republican voted for it. Obama didn't need Republican approval because there are more than enough Democrat votes in the House to pass the Bill, but he wanted Republicans to come along so that they could share in the blame if things go terribly wrong. Well, the Republicans didn't go along and I say CONGRATULATIONS TO THE REPUBLICANS!!!! Now we’re on to step #2; wait and see what the House-Senate version looks like. Will Republicans continue to stand on principal, or, will they go along to get along?

With the Bill now on its way to the Senate, it’s likely to change (and possibly grow) before it's finally presented to Obama for signing.

In the coming weeks and months, the left-leaning media will laud the Bill's passage as a huge victory for the Obama administration (and the American economy), when in fact, it is a dramatic step forward towards Socialism (or mass dependency) as well as a hidden war on the middle class.

The media (having Constitutional protections in order to watch and report on Government actions, yet are clearly vested in the success of the Obama administration), will continue to carry the water for the new President, thus placing the burden of Government watchdog on us, the American people.

If the American people are able to look beyond the (media) rhetoric of this "Stimulus" Bill and see it for what it really is, then I believe they will revolt and send a clear message to the Obama administration; by putting Republicans back in charge of Congress in 2010. If he's not careful, Obama could end up being a one-term President and in jeopardy of supplanting Jimmy Carter as the worst President ever.

Kicked to the curb...

January 23, 2009

It's been 3 days since the inauguration of the new President and already the elite media are crying "foul".  Seems that the "Old Gray Lady" (NY Times), CNN, Reuters and the AP are upset with the Obama administration over their unwillingness to allow their representatives to witness the second swearing-in, following the botched nationally televised event on Tuesday. I must say that I find this absolutely delicious and even ironic. Ironic in the fact that it was the major media that played a large part in the "selection" of Obama in the first place; with their unwillingness to vet the man. In fact, it can be argued that the major media elites came to Obama's defense, whenever questionable, if not radical, associations were mentioned. For instance, names like; William Ayers (Domestic Terrorist who bombed the Pentagon in 1972, the Capital in 1971 and NYC Police HQ in 1970), Jeremiah Wright (Obama's Pastor who said that September 11th was "America's chickens coming home to roost"), Tony Rezko (convicted of fraud and bribery in 2008), Rashid Kalidi (who once referred to Israel as an "apartheid system in creation" and a destructive "racist" state). Keep in mind that these are the associations that we know about. Are there others? Well, we don't know and likely never will because as FOX NEWS' Sean Hannity puts it; "2008 is the year journalism died".

I must give the elite media credit for one thing; they gave ample coverage to Sarah Palin's pregnant teenage daughter and the $150,000.00 price tag on her wardrobe and they managed to create the illusion that it was Sarah Palin who uttered the words "I can see Russia from my house", when in fact it was SNL's Tina Fey during one of her skits.  Did I mention the inordinate amount of time they spent covering the homes that John McCain owned?

I can just imagine Anderson Cooper, at a CNN meeting, clamoring 'We carried the water for Obama and he still managed to kick us to the curb'.

Oh, I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Stay tuned.
