“Now all the resources that are coming into that country are bogged down because they don’t have the infrastructure necessarily to distribute them to the people – a lot of the same things are happening, which tells me that he world and America did not necessarily learn enough from the Katrina experience,” he said.

“I am very concerned as I watch Haiti.”

Nagin said he has been in discussions with the Obama administration about possible insufficient preparedness, specifically raising concerns that not enough changes have been made in federal Stafford Act, which guides federal assistance after a natural disaster.

“And if another disaster happens I’m just concerned that we’re not going to see a lot of the same,” he said. “Another catastrophe, another city could be in the same position I was in five years ago.”
